The Precision Gap
Most blood alcohol calculators ask broad questions: "Did you have a beer or a glass of wine?" But not all beers are created equal, and a cocktail can range from mild to potent depending on the recipe.
Drinkmeter was built to close the gap between generic estimates and reality. Our goal is to provide a granular, wide-ranging database that accounts for specific drink types, liqueurs, and popular branded spirits. We believe consumers deserve to know exactly what is in their glass, from ABV percentages to specific gram counts of pure alcohol, so they can make safer, informed decisions.
Our Data Methodology
Accuracy is our top priority. Unlike many tools that rely on automated scraping or AI-generated estimates, the Drinkmeter database is manually curated and verified.
- Source Verification: Nutritional data and ABV percentages are cross-referenced directly with manufacturer websites and official product labels.
- Standardization: We rigorously calculate "Standard Drink" equivalents based on the NIAAA definition (14g of pure alcohol), allowing for apples-to-apples comparisons across different beverage types.
Medical Review & Safety
While Team Drinkmeter is composed of data enthusiasts and software engineers, we understand that health data requires medical expertise. Our calculator logic and educational content have been reviewed by our medical reviewers to ensure they correctly implement established scientific models (specifically the Widmark Formula) and adhere to current health guidelines.
